The Faces of Pain
The Faces of Pain revolves around the facial expressions that stare back at a person when they're giving an activity or task everything they are capable of. I made this project to convey both what I see in my own coach's face while I row and what I feel myself. There is a specific kind of drive that allows a person to thrive while continuously putting themselves through tough experiences.
To help communicate these feelings to the audience, using Raspberry Pi and Arduino, I hooked up my LEDs in the faces to an indoor rowing machine. When the viewer rows lightly, the saddest face will have an illuminated mouth and eyes. As the viewer rows with more pressure, the faces will light up from left to right, eventually reaching the long awaited expression of masochistic success.
